The Security Council imposed restriction on movement throughout the state from 6am to 7pm.

The government said the restriction was to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.

The overseeing commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan in a statement yesterday,  said vehicular movement, as well as commercial and other related activities which may constitute impediments to law and order are to cease within the period of the restriction.

The statement added that only persons performing essential duties were exempted from the restriction, and may move during the period with proper identification and clearance.
