Gunmen have killed seven persons in Georo community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, following an attack that triggered panic among residents on Monday night.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community at about 10:20 p.m., opening fire sporadically and killing victims at different locations, including their shops and a local restaurant where food was being prepared.

A community member, Bot Silas, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen launched the attack at night, forcing residents to flee for safety.

He disclosed that some of the victims were killed in their shops, while others were attacked at the local restaurant.

“Seven persons were killed in the attack, and the incident caused serious panic among residents of the community,” he added.

According to Silas, the late-night attack sent residents scrambling for safety as the gunmen continued shooting.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killings and called for urgent action by security agencies.

“The killing of innocent people in Georo is condemnable and must not be allowed to continue,” Tengwong said.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and arrest those responsible for the attack.

“I call on the relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to protect communities and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” he said.

Tengwong also called for a thorough investigation into the incident, stressing the need to ensure that residents could go about their daily activities without fear.

“We call on the relevant security agencies to investigate the incident, bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that residents can live and carry out their legitimate activities without fear,” he added.

The attack adds to security concerns in Plateau State, where residents in affected communities have repeatedly faced threats of violence.
