Combined operatives comprising the police, military, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and local vigilantes thwarted a bandits’ attack on Saturday and rescued six abducted victims.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesman, Sadiq Abubakar, the incident took place at Unguwar Batsaka quarters in Jibia town, Jibia local government area of the state.
Spokesman of the Command, Sadiq Abubakar, said a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police headquarters at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Saturday that a gang of bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, launched an assault on the neighbourhood, firing sporadically with the intent to abduct residents.
Abubakar further that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Jibia mobilised a team of operatives, who were joined by the military, members of the KSCWC and local vigilantes to engage the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted about an hour.
He added that the bandits were forced to flee after sustaining various degrees of bullet injuries.
He disclosed that the abducted six victims were rescued during the operation and immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained during the attack.
Unfortunately, one of the victims, identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The Command said it has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
It urged residents to report any information related to criminal activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
