The Save Ndokwa Nation Group (SNNG) has called for an immediate review of the oil quantum allocated to Ndokwa Nation.

Comrade Enudi Marcus, coordinator of the group, stated in a press release that Ndokwa Nation, rich in natural resources, has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s oil and gas wealth for decades.

However, he expressed concern over the glaring disparity in the percentage allocation of oil quantum to their region.

“For instance, available statistics show that the people of Ndokwa have endured environmental degradation, loss of livelihoods, and underdevelopment, while the resources from the region have been continuously exploited for the benefit of others.

“Studies have shown that the current allocation does not reflect the massive oil deposits and contributions from Ndokwa land.

“This call for review is not just about seeking a fair share for our people; it is rooted in the principles of equity, justice, and sustainable development.

“It is no secret that while Ndokwa’s oil fields are among the most productive in Nigeria, the oil companies operating in the region have benefited immensely from these resources, but the same cannot be said for the people of Ndokwa,” he said.

He added that the environmental impact of oil extraction has devastated farmlands, polluted rivers, and led to health challenges for the Ndokwa people. Yet, the percentage of oil quantum allocated to Ndokwa remains unjustifiably low.

Marcus emphasised the urgent need for a review, noting that the current arrangement grossly underrepresents Ndokwa Nation’s contributions to Nigeria’s oil economy.

“For too long, Ndokwa Nation has been sidelined, and our people have suffered from systemic neglect. It is our view that the time to correct this imbalance is now.

“A fair share of the oil quantum will empower Ndokwa economically. Increased revenue allocation will allow Ndokwa Nation to invest in critical sectors like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth development. This will help lift thousands of Ndokwa people out of poverty and create opportunities for sustainable growth.”

According to him, a review of the oil quantum will not only ensure that Ndokwa benefits from its resources but will also serve as a foundation for addressing the long-standing developmental challenges the region faces.
