NGO Launches Baby Shower To Prevent Mother-to-child HIV Transmission

The Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP) has launched AP3 Baby Shower in an engagement with faith communities as part of efforts to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.

It is also meant to reduce or prevent mother to child transmission of HIV.

The one day engagement also featured health education, syphilis, malaria and HIV test and also high blood pressure check.

Some of the participants who spoke commended CIHP for such an initiative which they described as apt.

National president of Muslim Intellectuals of Nigeria, Imma Auwal Junaid said government is not doing enough in addressing HIV issues, saying that the launch of the baby shower will help greatly in preventing mother to child transmission of the virus.

Also speaking in like manner, Musa Ibrahim said all forms of discrimination against HIV carriers should be discouraged while calling on mothers who are already carriers to avail themselves of the opportunities available to prevent the virus from being transmitted to their unborn babies.

On his part, Abdullahi Nuhu said the eradication of HIV should be a major concern to all stakeholders while urging pregnant women to always present themselves for HIV screening.

He lamented that most women don’t attend antenatal and deliver mainly at home, which makes some of them prone to all manner of diseases.
