Consider Female For Humanitarian Minister, APC Group Urges Tinubu

Progressive Volunteers for Tinubu (PVT) has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider appointing a female with a track record as minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The pro All Progressives Congress (APC) group stated this while raising concerns over the appointment of Dr Nentawe Yilwatda to preside over the ministry.

Recall that Yilwatda was last week appointed new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, which has been commended by some APC leaders and non-governmental organisations, like Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative.

But, PVT, in a press statement signed by its Plateau State coordinator, Timkat Nanmak, advocated for the appointment of a female candidate with a track record in humanitarian efforts, foreign grant management, and community support programmes.

He said the ministry should focus on experience and expertise, rather than serve as a political reward, especially for individuals who previously contested in elections.

“We strongly believe that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs should be led by someone with relevant expertise and experience, especially in such a critical area,” Timkat stated.

He raised concerns over the “politicisation” of key ministerial positions.

PVT Plateau reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria but emphasised that appointments should prioritise competence and merit.

“The vulnerable populations of Nigeria deserve competent leadership,” Timkat added.

The group expressed hope that the president would align the appointment with his administration’s goals for national progress and inclusivity.
