The event, set to take place from October 30 to November 1 at Victoria Island, Lagos, aims to address pressing environmental issues and propose actionable solutions for Nigeria’s sustainable development.

NES national president Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia shared details of the upcoming conference during a press briefing in Abuja. Dr. Okobia stated that this year’s conference, also known as “EKO 2024,” will bring together experts to discuss global and local environmental challenges. The goal is to explore scientific and practical solutions that balance environmental preservation with Nigeria’s economic growth.

The event will feature a keynote address from Prof. Olarewaju Adigun Fagbohun, former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University. Guests include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, and the minister of environment, Balarabe Lawal Abbas.

Other dignitaries expected are traditional leader Rilwan Akiolu, the Eleko of Eko, and various state governors, including those from Ogun, Niger, Delta, and Borno states.

According to the organisers, the programme will feature various technical sessions, reflecting the conference’s sub-themes, which address significant sustainability issues. Dr Okobia emphasised that these discussions aim to confront challenges and opportunities in environmental management in alignment with global efforts to curb environmental degradation.
