Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF), in collaboration with the Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF) have called for young filmmaker to submit short films addressing Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV).

The project is held in commemoration of the annual and international 16 Days of Activism For The Elimination of Violence Against Women 2024.

Young filmmakers who have produced works highlighting violence against women are encouraged to submit on or before November 19, 2024. The best film of the three shortlisted films will be screened at the NGSF event scheduled to mark the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women on December 6.

Speaking to Leadership Sunday, founder, KADIFF, Israel Audu Kashim said the event is a convergence of festival’s interest in promoting young filmmakers with the NGSF’s annual activity sensitizing the public on the need to eliminate violence against women.

“Annually NGF hold an event to commemorate this event. We thought to support them by recognizing young filmmakers who have created good works depicting violence against women. Film submissions should be no longer than 10 minutes.”

While there appears to be no cash prizes attached to the initiative, Audu said some incentives will be provided to the shortlisted films.

Established in 1991, at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute, the campaign is deployed by individuals and organizations as a strategy to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. It begins on November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and runs through December 10, the International Human Rights Day.
