LEADERSHIP’s Patience Ihejirika Wins 2024 Climate Media Spotlight Award

Patience Ivie Ihejirika, a journalist with LEADERSHIP Newspaper, has emerged as the winner (print category) of the 2024 Climate Media Spotlight Award, organised by Oxfam, African Activities for Climate Justice, and Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP).

The Climate Media Spotlight Award recognises the power of storytelling and compelling communication in shaping public opinion and inspiring action.

The award aims to harness the talents of writers and communicators nationwide to raise awareness, educate, and mobilise communities and rally the government to take meaningful action against climate change and environmental degradation.

Ihejirika won the award in the print category for her exceptional coverage of climate change, particularly its effects on health, the environment, agriculture, and the economy.

Her articles demonstrated insightful analysis and a strong understanding of the challenges facing Nigeria’s health, environment, and agriculture sectors.

Mrs Ihejirika expressed her gratitude for winning the award, saying, “I am deeply honoured to receive this award. It is a privilege to be recognised for my work.”

The 2024 Climate Media Spotlight Award received many submissions from journalists across print and audiovisual platforms.
