Abuja-based lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has thrown a jibe at the Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to “save” the Democratic candidate in the U.S presidential election, Kamala Harris, from her projected defeat to Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Adeyanju made the call on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, sarcastically suggesting that INEC would have been able to ‘change’ the US election results if the election were in Nigeria.
Sharing an image of INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and the electoral umpire’s logo, Adeyanju wrote, “INEC can still save Kamala. What INEC cannot do does not exist. They can switch off the server or change results on IREV.”
Adeyanju’s remark was welcomed with reactions by netizens in the comment section, with many suggesting that the United States presidential election is far more credible than the one conducted in Nigeria last year.
Adeyanju, who had been a critic of the outcome of Nigeria’s 2023 general election won by President Bola Tinubu, further wrote, “Yakubu will now be screaming on top of his voice, GO TO COURT.”
LEADERSHIP reports that Trump has been formally declared the 47th US president after defeating incumbent vice president, Kamala Harris.
