Comrade Msughter Asue, chairmanship aspirant for the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Benue State chapter, has promised to work assiduously to restore the lost glory of basic education in the state in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia administration’s policy on education.
In a chat with our correspondent ahead of the 17th December 2024 delegates Conference to be held in Gboko, Benue State to elect NUT chairman Pastor Asue said fostering unity and progress among all teachers in the state is also one of his plans if given the mandate.
“I will work to enhance members’ social and economic well-being. Serving, deceased and retired, among others enshrined in the union’s constitution,” he said.
He stated that election is not a battle but a quest to serve ordained by God, even as he appealed to delegates to consider casting their votes in his favour to enable him to emerge as the state chairman.
According to him, the chairmanship position has been zoned to Benue North East and micro-zoned to Jechira federal constituency. Members sat and narrowed it to Vandeikya, where I come from.”
“I was nominated to contest unanimously and adopted by all the stakeholders of Zone A, B and C”, respectively.
The chairmanship hopeful said he intends to fund his work plan, if elected into office, as enshrined in the union Constitution, through monthly check-off dues, donations, proceeds from the welfare scheme, and gifts from well-meaning bodies, among other things.
He emphasised that if elected, the restoration of camaraderie between teachers and other workers will take centre stage upon assumption of office.
