A shipping magnate, Charles Amanze, has proposed to establish a 1000-workforce Indian bamboo toothpick factory in Nsirimo Amaise autonomous community, Umuahia South local government area of Abia State.

Amanze stated this at an interaction with newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, expressing worry that the lack of access roads, potable water, power, and other basic infrastructure has challenged the realisation of the project.

“The proposed factory project is aimed at harnessing our community’s abundant bamboo resources to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and promote sustainable development,” he said.

‘The project is a beacon of hope for Nsirimo Amaise autonomous community. Together, let’s unlock the potential of our bamboo resources and build a brighter future.

“Apart from the economic gains, including increased local revenue, the factory will promote sustainable forestry practices, reduce environmental hazards, and help to conserve natural resources,” he added.

Asserting that when operational, the factory would produce about a million cartons of the products monthly, he noted, “The factory will enjoy unlimited supply of the raw material which abounds in our forests.”

The prince, who has his eyes set on the community’s throne, added that the people were ever ready to partner or collaborate with individuals or corporate investors to realise the project.

The Eze-elect, therefore, appealed to Governor Alex Otti to consider the community for his ongoing road development agenda, which has led to the rehabilitation and building of both old and new ones.

“The farmers are not reaping commensurate economic benefits from their toil as lack of access roads has stopped them from moving their produce to urban centres, thereby recording losses.”
