In a bid to empower African women and their communities, the African Women Conference (AWC) said it has acquired a parcel of land in Tunga Maje, a suburb of Abuja, to construct the Africa Women Conference Leadership Development Centre (AWCLDC).

Co-convener of the Africa Women Conference, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, made the revelation on the sidelines of the 8th edition of the Africa Women Conference (AWC 2024),  held in Lusaka, Zambia, and said it would soon perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the centre.

She said the first set of students graduated from the African Women Conference Leadership Development Centre (AWCLDC) on October 8th. The centre will also commence digital hubs in a few communities using the following countries as pilots: Nigeria, Namibia, Gambia, and Zambia, with partner organisations.

Dr Jumai said this year’s AWC theme, “Digital Advancement: Harnessing its Potential for the African Woman”, is apt because technology is a powerful tool that can amplify women’s voices, enhance their skills, and pave pathways to success.

She said at the Zambia Conference, “We have women from rural communities in the FCT here with us because the chairmen believe that exposing them to conferences such as this will broaden their knowledge and provide them with practical skills to become more confident and efficient as they lead women in their respective communities.”
