A Kano-based Chef, OluwaFumilayo Jacob, has hosted lovers of Amala in the state in an Amala festival to strengthen their unity.

The festival, which brought together people from different sociocultural backgrounds, was held over the weekend at the Kano Trade Fairground.

Speaking during the event, Chef Jacob, or Chef Fummy, said Amala has become a typical food that is no longer eaten by Yuruba alone but is enjoyed by many non-Yorubas.

According to her, the festival was organised to bring people together under a big tent to enjoy the Yoruba special delicacy, noting that food serves as another instrument for uniting people.

“We have the Igbos, Hausas, and other tribes present to eat this Amala. The message we are preaching is how to live peacefully with one another.

“This is the second edition, and it has come to stay in Kano. We hope to move from one part of the country to the other and other countries as well shortly,” she highlighted.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdullateef, the special adviser to the Kano state governor on inter-community relations (Yoruba community), said the festival is all-encompassing for the unity of Nigeria.

He said Amala is a very healthy household staple food and that the event will further strengthen unity in diversity, especially among state residents.

An Amala lover, Ramadan Yusuf, said his presence at the event was to celebrate Amala, especially among those fond of it.

“Everything around here is a vibe of unity because we are here to celebrate one of our cultural foods in Nigeria, and every food from every part of the country is our heritage, and we are so proud of it,” he noted.
