The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it has distributed relief items to people affected by disaster in the Ruhali community of Ogbogoro Kingdom, Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

The South-South zonal coordinator of NEMA, Mr Adebiyi Rasaq, who represented the NEMA director general, Mrs Zubaida Umar, flagged off the distribution, which was part of the federal government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of flood victims. He urged the community not to sell the items and emphasised the need for local efforts to clear waterways to prevent future flooding.

The community’s traditional ruler, Lawrence Wosuali, expressed gratitude on behalf of the people for the intervention, thanking the federal government and NEMA for their support. Similarly, the community’s women leader, Mrs Chukwu Constance, and youth president, Mr Chuka Ovunda, acknowledged that the relief materials had rekindled hope among the flood victims, who had been struggling with significant losses.

NEMA, in collaboration with the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency, distributed relief items, including rice, garri, vegetable oil, and seasoning, directly to the beneficiaries. Although heavy rainfall initially interrupted the distribution, it resumed successfully at the community town hall.
