An industry often overlooked and deemed “old and forgotten” is undergoing a remarkable transformation across Nigeria, led by The Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association, also known as The Cleaners Network Association.

Over the course of this year, the association has gathered hundreds of cleaners at The Cleaners Forum in Abuja on May 25, 2024; Lagos on October 17, 2024, and Port Harcourt on October 26, 2024, marking a significant push for reform in the cleaning industry.

The latest edition of The Cleaners Forum in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, attracted youth and cleaning professionals from neighboring states, all eager to engage in discussions aimed at raising awareness about the vital role cleaners play in ensuring a cleaner, healthier Nigeria.

The forum emphasised networking, collaboration, and empowerment, equipping attendees with the right tools, mindset, and strategies to build sustainable cleaning businesses, while also preserving the sanctity of the environment.

In a brief chat with Barr. Yakubu Mohammed Yazeed, the President of the association, he expressed the industry’s significance, saying, “The cleaning industry is a major employer of labor in Nigeria, but it has not received the attention it deserves. We haven’t been celebrated for significantly reducing unemployment across the nation.

“Beyond that, we are the unsung heroes who ensure that people can function properly in every ecosystem. It is time for the cleaning industry to rise, and I am confident that in the coming years, we will witness an evolution in our industry.”
