The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Enhancement Project (L-PRES), a World Bank-supported project, has trained 80 women pastoralists on milk hygiene and collection protocol in Bauchi state to foster economic resilience and livelihood improvement in the communities.

Speaking at the occasion on Thursday, the L-Press Bauchi state coordinator, Musa Adamu, explained that participants were selected from 20 local government areas for training on the process of storage and preservation of milk.

Adamu said,  “We expect to see quality milk produced from the various women pastoralists for sale to consumers. The L-Pres training has to do with anything related to animal husbandry.”

According to him, the training targets women pastoralists because they are milking the cows‘ milk to either process or sell it to the public.

Also, the state commissioner of agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, expressed gratitude that his ministry was reasonable in making milk and naturalisation hygienic.

Represented by a deputy director of livestock and animal husbandry in the ministry, Aliyu Zubairu Usman, the commissioner thanked Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for allowing them to facilitate this World Bank project of L-Pres.

Alhaji Zubairu Usman further explained that the objective of the training is to harness the means of the milk being tapped from the cows and other animals with this great potential.

A training participant, Kulu Muhammad, from the Sullubawa community, said that hygienic pastoralization would improve the sale of their products with an increased attraction of buyers in the markets.
