Odili, Abubakar Splash N6m On 28 Pamo Varsity’s Graduands, Lecturers

Former Rivers State governor, Dr Peter Odili and former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, have doled out a total of N6million to 28 fresh graduands of Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing of the Pamo University of Medical Science, Port Harcourt.

The former governor donated N200,000 to each of the 11 best graduating students from the two departments and N100,000 to 17 others as well as N500,000 to each of the two best lecturers in the two departments.

For his part, Abubakar, the university’s chancellor, donated N100,000 to each of the 11 best graduating students from the two departments.

The duo announced the donations yesterday in Port Harcourt, during the joint induction/oath-taking ceremony of the graduands by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Speaking at the event, Odili, who is the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of Pamo University of Medical Science, expressed gratitude to Rivers State  Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his dedication to improving the health sector in the state.

He emphasized the importance of the partnership between the university and the state government, noting that this collaboration will increase the number of health workers in the region, ultimately preventing talent drain.

In her remarks, Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, emphasized the vital roles of nurses and medical laboratory scientists in building a robust healthcare system, promoting health, and achieving universal health coverage.

Oreh restated the Rivers State government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services, citing recent initiatives such as the hiring of 2,000 health workers and scholarships for medical education.
