The National Institute for Sports (NIS) will be encouraged to play a more strategic role in the new order being charted for sports development by the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko.
Dikko gave assurance while receiving the director-general of NIS Professor Olawale Moronkola, who paid him an official visit on Wednesday in Abuja
He commended Prof Moronkola for his impactful leadership at the NIS and assured him that the institution will receive all needed support to strategically play its statutory roles towards the accomplishment of NSC plans requires better coaches and sports administrators.
“I’m glad to have you on this visit. It is important to acknowledge that under your impactful leadership, we are having a better NIS.
Nevertheless, we are looking forward to having the NIS play a very important role in the new direction we are charting for our sports.
“We shall give all needed support to the NIS to strategically play its statutory roles towards the accomplishment of our plans for a new course for our sports that needs better coaches and sports administrators,” Dikko said.
He further encouraged the DG not to relent but to be proactive, dynamic and visionary so that all can work together as a team.
In his response, Professor Moronkola congratulated the NSC chairman whom he described as a tested sport administrator.
He said based on Malam Shehu Dikko’s experience, knowledge and expertise, he would take sports to a new direction .The DG assured that things will change for the better for sports under the Chairman. He assured that the NIS will give him all necessary support to ensure he succeeds in repositioning our Sports while seeking for better funding ,involvement of NIS in sports programmes in the country.
“Sir, I assure you that all hands will be on deck to support your vision and mission for our sports sector,” Moronkola said.
