Sultan Presents Scholarship Awards To 12 Female Medical Students

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has presented scholarship awards to 12 female Muslim medical students from the Southwest states.

Abubakar, also the president-general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, charged parents to groom their children in a pure Islamic way so they would grow up as better citizens.

The Sultan, who spoke while announcing the expansion of the number of the beneficiaries of Sultan Abubakar Female Medical Students’ Scholarship Awards at the 9th General Assembly Delegates Conference of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, MUSWEN at the Islamic Centre, University of Ibadan noted that it was important for Nigerians to raise children with moral teachings to allow religion permeates all aspects of life for a better society.

“We are in religion, but religion is not in us; that is what we need to work on”, Sultan stressed.

The Sultan appreciated MUSWEN’s gesture to the flood victims in Maiduguri, saying the donation was well received by the north and indicated that Islam is one united religion.

In a keynote address, the president of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, urged President Bola Tinubu to deploy human-centred measures to mitigate the effects of current economic policies.

Oladejo advised, “We recognise that the situation is the creation of the Tinubu administration. The government should do all its power to alleviate people’s suffering.”

He also warned Nigerians not to play into the hands of politicians who have not seen anything good in the present administration.

Delivering a lecture on “The Islamic Instruments on Total Eradication of Poverty in the Society,” Professor of Islamic Law and Jurisprudence at the University of Ibadan Wole Abass described Zakat as Allah’s compassion to eradicate poverty and spread love.

Abbas reiterated that Zakat is the best antidote to combat poverty in all ramifications, calling on rich Muslims to give out Zakat as and when due to ensure wealth redistribution.

Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, represented by the deputy governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, said security was sacrosanct.

In their goodwill messages, Ekiti state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the secretary to the state government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro and Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the special adviser on Religion (Islam), Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi promised constant support for MUSWEN in its activities.
