The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms saved Nigeria from collapse, stressing that he inherited a finished country. He added that the country is now set on the path of prosperity and development.

The national chairman of SWAGA, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said this in Ilorin while receiving 6,000 bags of 10 kilogrammes of garri palliatives for Kwara SWAGA members donated by Justice Lambo Akanbi (rtd).

Adeyeye said the removal of subsidy on petroleum was a very bold and courageous step taken by Tinubu, noting that the  successive administrations before tinkered with the idea, but lacked the courage to do so.

He expressed optimism that from 2025: “Nigerians will feel the effects of Tinubu’s economic reforms. He has restructured the country’s economy. Many trucks carrying goods would have been converted to compressed natural gas (CNG).

“By then a lot of people will be using gas to power their vehicles. Dangote will need to be exporting 80 percent of his petroleum out of Nigeria. Better days are ahead of this country.”

Adeyeye hailed Tinubu for bringing Nigeria out of the precipice and brinks of collapse, explaining that: “When he took over as the president on May 29th, 2023, Nigeria was finished. 70 percent of the country’s budget was used to service debt before his assumption of office. Nigeria was borrowing money to pay salaries of civil servants.

He added:” The issue of fuel subsidy removal started from former president Olusegun Obasanjo. No government before Tinubu had the courage to remove fuel subsidy. Some of them were afraid to remove it because they did not have good intention. Tinubu has good intention and he removed it to save Nigeria. Today Nigeria is only using over 60 percent of it resources to service debts. The country can pay civil servants without borrowing.

“Today the country is not using ways and means, it is using whatever it generates to meet its needs. Nigeria is now on the right path of development.”

Adeyeye praised Justice Lambo Akanbi for his humanitarian gesture, saying “we are highly impressed for you to have carried out this humanitarian gesture through SWAGA.”

Earlier, Akanbi said “We are glad to associate with President Tinubu in addressing the poverty of the poor. The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Many families are struggling to meet their daily needs.

“Together, we can create a better future for everyone. As we launch this palliative programme, let us remember that this is just the beginning. We must continue to work hand in hand leveraging on our resources to reach more families in need,” he said.
