Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, are among the dignitaries expected at the 2024 Ilawe-Ekiti Day celebration.
The chairman of the 2024 Ilawe-Ekiti Unity Day celebration, Barr Femi Bankole, who stated this while addressing a press conference to highlight activities lined up for the celebration, said the community plans to launch an N500 million support and development fund for the equipping and take-off of the
Teaching Hospital annexe in the community to deliver quality healthcare services to the residents.
Bankole said the people of Ilawe-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti South West local government area of Ekiti state, have supported the government through communal efforts to develop the community.
According to him, the community has prosecuted several projects through communal efforts.
Bankole said, “We support the government with our self-help, which is the hallmark of Ilawe Ekiti. A good part of our development in this community has been through self-help, and it has continued to this day; the latest is this tertiary health facility. Some of the things we have done through this, including the palace, post office, and hospital structure, are through communal effort. So, it is just a continuity of what we have been doing.
“Ilawe-Ekiti, which ranks the third largest and most populous town in Ekiti State, according to the last Population Census conducted by the National Population Commission and confirmed by the National Bureau of Statistics, lacks many crucial social amenities and infrastructure, among which are befitting and well equipped Medical facilities to match her status and cater.
He added that traditional chieftaincy titles would be conferred on the former governor of Abia state, Senator Uzor Orji Kalu, who will also be the Chief launcher for the event and Dr Adesanya Abayomi and his wife, Afolasade Adesanya, by the Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Ajibade Alabi.
