Female Lawmakers Are Not Pushovers – Akume

Member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Regina Akume, has declared that the serving female federal lawmakers are not lightweight with regards to representing their constituents.

She said this during the flag off of the construction of the 34 km Akpagher-Ikpenger-Kuhwa-Akumba road in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

She also disclosed that over 200,000 persons suffering from varying eye diseases in her constituency have benefited from the free eye testing and treatment which she initiated in collaboration with Tulsi Charai Eye Foundation, Abuja.

“Let Nigerians see what we women are doing. We are only 16 women in the House of Representatives. If you go down south, you’ll see the other lady doing her best, and I’m up here doing mine. Most of us are doing what we can, we are here proving we can do what men can. So, men should give us more opportunities”

“In the last One year in office, I have distributed health materials, mattresses, mosquito nets, and other supplies to primary health care centers in Gboko special-purpose blocks in selected health care centers in Gboko/Tarka; provision of motorized boreholes in selected areas of the constituency; training and grants for empowerment; provision of herbicides and improved seed varieties; procurement of a high-tension industrial drilling rig for potable water; construction of a six-classroom block with toilets and offices at LGA Primary School Ingyorov, Ipav, Gboko; distribution of 1,000 gas cookers; among many others.

While commending the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and other members for their support which brought the project to limelight, the wife of the secretary to the government of the Federation Senator George Akume said with the support of her husband all the projects she embarked upon in her constituency will be completed.

“I want to thank the speaker of the House of Representatives and all members of the National Assembly for their support which saw the inclusion of the project in the budget for implementation, I know with the support of Dr. Mathias Byuan and a host of others, this project will see the light of the day.”

She also applauded all the traditional rulers for their acceptance, support and commitment to ensure that the project is a success, more development projects will be attracted to the communities to enhance their living standards.

Giving more insight into the project, principal officer at Martinyos Nigeria Ltd, Engr. Wang Yungfeng, said the road will includes “8 bridges and 10 culverts and assured the community of quality delivery:

“Our company is known for quality and durability. The road has close to 8 bridges and 10 culverts, going beyond a typical federal project. We assure you of a peaceful, high-quality delivery that will foster economic growth and reduce the plight to travel,” he said.
