Speaking during the workshop’s opening ceremony for LG chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and secretaries, Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, emphasised the importance of leadership and accountability.

A statement issued by the deputy governor’s Press Secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, yesterday said the workshop, organised by the Ministry for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), is themed “Leadership and Professional Ethics.”

It is designed to equip local government administrators with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to make decisions rooted in integrity to develop their LGAs.

Gwarzo reminded participants that local governments are the backbone of democracy, and their actions, decisions, and leadership directly impact their communities, the state, and the nation.

He urged the local government Chairmen to network, share knowledge, and adopt best practices to improve governance at the grassroots.

The Deputy Governor assured participants of his commitment to supporting the growth and development of all 44 LGAs in Kano State while commending Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his steadfast dedication to human capital development, particularly at the local government level.

Speaking earlier, Chief Dr Yomi Charles, Project Consultant from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), highlighted the workshop’s focus areas: “Conflict Management” and “Qualities of a Leader.”

He stressed that conflict is inevitable in administration and urged leaders to develop skills for managing disputes while maintaining transparency and accountability.

Also speaking, Zubairu Hamza Masu, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed satisfaction with the workshop‘s conduct.

She spoke on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, Masu called on the Ministry of Local Government to organise a similar workshop involving members of the House and LG chairmen to ensure smooth administration in the state.

Participants shared their thoughts during the event. Dr. Mani Tsoho, Chairman of Gwarzo LGA, thanked the Ministry and the consultants for addressing the workshop‘s theme, particularly on conflict resolution.

Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, Chairman of Tudun Wada LGA, revealed she had gained valuable knowledge on securing and applying for development projects to benefit her community.

Other participants, including the chairmen of the Warawa and Dambatta LGAs, also commended the workshop and pledged to apply the insights gained to improve governance and service delivery in their respective local government areas.
