A renowned leader in Nigeria’s banking and microfinance sectors, Dr. Osita Nebolisa, has concluded his two-year term as national president of the Humanity Development & Empowerment Organisation (HDEO), also known as the Lenders Association.
Nebolisa will hand over leadership of HDEO this month to Mr. Dele Apanisile of Credit Direct Ltd., ensuring continuity of the association’s mission.
His tenure was marked by significant milestones, including the signing of a landmark Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) in 2023.
The agreement introduced a transparent framework for loan disbursements and repayments, benefiting over two million federal civil servants and addressing inefficiencies in previous systems.
“This agreement establishes a framework that ensures fair access to credit for civil servants while protecting the interests of all stakeholders in the lending ecosystem,” Dr. Nebolisa said.
HDEO, established in 2018, is a consortium of commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and finance companies.
Under Dr. Nebolisa’s leadership, the organization strengthened collaboration among its members, promoting equitable lending practices and financial transparency.
Reflecting on his achievements, Dr. Nebolisa stated, “I am immensely proud of the strides we’ve made to improve access to credit for Nigeria’s civil servants and enhance cooperation among our nation’s lenders.
“Our progress reflects a shared commitment to financial inclusivity and sustainable development.”
Nebolisa’s career spans leadership roles in major financial institutions, including Intercontinental Bank, BankPHB, and Ecobank.
He is also the founder and Managing Director of Visa Microfinance Bank Ltd. His contributions extend to serving as Chairman of the National Association of Microfinance Banks (NAMB) for both the FCT Chapter and the North Central Zone.
