The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has congratulated Daniel Igali, the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation on his election into the Bureau of United World Wrestling.
Igali scored the highest number of votes, 83, to lead a field of 17 contestants, including four returning incumbents, vying for six available spots at the body’s congress held in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Minister urged Igali to use his new position in the prestigious global wrestling body to further develop the sport in Nigeria and Africa.
Nigeria won a silver medal in Wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and followed up with three gold, two silver and a bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Isak has hit nine goals in 37 games for Sweden, and became the youngest goalscorer in his country’s history when opening his account in a friendly against Slovakia at 17 years old in 2017.
Eddie Howe could hand Isak his Newcastle debut when they take in a trip to Wolves on Sunday, but if that fixture comes too soon, the forward will likely take his bow against Liverpool on August 31.
