Seven Tips On Foods To Avoid Reheating

Here are some helpful tips on food you should avoid reheating.

RICE
Rice is one of the most common foods that we reheat almost frequently. But you will be amazed to know that rice can be a breeding ground for bacteria, especially Bacillus cereus, which can survive cooking. When rice is left at room temperature and then reheated, these bacteria can multiply and produce toxins that may cause food poisoning. An easy tip to avoid that is to cook rice in small batches and refrigerate it promptly.

FRENCH FRIES
Oily french fries don’t taste the same the next day. But did you know that you should avoid reheating restaurant fries for more than just the lackluster flavor? If you overheat your french fries past the original frying oil’s smoke point, you can cause the oil to release dangerous fumes.

POTATOES
Cooked potatoes can develop a condition called botulism if they are not stored properly. When potatoes are cooked and then left out or reheated, they can harbor bacteria that produce toxins.

SEAFOOD
Seafood is particularly sensitive to bacteria and can spoil quickly. Reheating seafood can result in an unpleasant taste and texture and may also increase the risk of foodborne illness.

MUSHROOMS
Mushrooms contain proteins and nutrients that can change when reheated, potentially causing digestive issues.

LEAFY GREENS
Leafy greens like kale, collard greens, and Swiss chard contain nitrates, which can convert into nitrites when reheated. This can pose health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children.
