Fintiri Presents N486.2bn Proposed Budget Estimate To Adamawa Assembly

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has presented N486,218,047,600 proposed  budget estimates to the Adamawa House of assembly.

The sum of N137,256,217,610, which represents 28.23 per cent is earmarked for Recurrent services, while the balance of N348,961,829,990 is earmarked for capital development programmes and services in the state.

The budget breakdown indicates that Ministry of Works and Energy Development got the highest sectoral allocation of  N88,887,728,830.00, followed by Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development N40,407,396,580.00,Office of the Accountant General got N25,877,656,320.00  Others are Adamawa State Staff Pension Board N23,973,974,900.00, Ministry of Commerce, N21,443,404,840.00,

Office of the Secretary to the State Government, N17,960,954,510.00  and Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning,  N15,719,763,210.00

Equally, Ministry of Housing & Urban Development received N14,340,067,820.00, State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER), N14,119,200,000.00, Post Primary Schools Management Board  N14,037,899,740.00

Security and Special Services Department got N12,963,755,500.00, Poverty Alleviation Agency, N12,883,600,000.00 while Ministry of Agriculture, N12,695,312,040.00

Ministry of Health and Human Services N12,646,274,760.00

Ministry of Rural Infrastructure & Community Development got N11,060,140,560.00 respectively.

The governor said the government has empowered 85,000 women and youths beneficiaries through its empowerment programme.

He assured that the government will continue to work in line with the federal government directives to follow international public sector accounting standards (IPSAS) and now (SABER) to ensure that there is transparency and accountability in budget preparation and implementation.

Responding, Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, said the assembly has introduced 51 bills and passed 20 into law within one year.

Wesley assured that the budget would be considered for speedy approval  before the end of December 2024 for good governance in the state.

He appealed for the lift of the ban on employment to enable young graduates to get employed into the state civil service, after the current screening exercise embarked upon by the state government.

He equally pleaded for consistency in the payment of gratuity of retirees, adding that the assembly would continue to give top priority to development of the state.
