A coalition of concerned youths in Zamfara State has called on the former governor, Dr. Bello Matawalle, to return to leadership in 2027, citing widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance.
The Zamfara Youth Concern Citizens (ZYCC), in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Comrade Anas Abdullahi Kaura; spokesperson, Ahmad Abdullahi Shinkafi; and publicity secretary, Ubaidullahi Yahaya Kaura, lamented the state’s current challenges and expressed hope for a return to what they described as the “golden era” of governance under Dr. Matawalle.
“During challenging times like these, we find ourselves looking back to the transformational leadership of Dr. Bello Matawalle,” the statement reads.
“His tenure was not just an administrative period—it was an era of sustainable growth, inclusion, and empowerment.”
The group lauded Dr. Matawalle’s tenure, highlighting several of his administration’s accomplishments. These included significant strides in security, education, youth and women empowerment, and economic revitalization.
Key initiatives during his administration included vocational training programmes that empowered thousands of youths and women in tailoring, carpentry, plumbing, welding, and IT.
Over 3,500 young entrepreneurs reportedly benefited from capital support under the Small Business Support Scheme, while the Zamfara Social Investment Programme (Z-SIP) provided monthly stipends of N10,000 to more than 25,000 vulnerable individuals.
The statement also noted that his government appointed over 8,000 youths to political and governance roles, offering them opportunities to contribute to the state’s development.
Additionally, over 3,000 youths were trained in digital skills through the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), preparing them for opportunities in the tech industry.
The ZYCC emphasized that Dr. Matawalle’s leadership is urgently needed to restore stability and progress in the state.
They pointed to his current role as Minister of State for Defence under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his contributions to national security and expressing confidence in his ability to address Zamfara’s challenges.
“His tenure as Minister of State for Defence has demonstrated his capacity to tackle insecurity at the national level,” the group stated.
“If he can contribute to national security, we are confident he can restore peace and prosperity to Zamfara State.”
In a heartfelt appeal, the group urged Dr. Matawalle to heed the call of the people and return to govern the state.
“This is not just a call for leadership—it is a call for restoration,” the ZYCC said.
“We need his steady hand, visionary leadership, and compassionate heart to guide us toward a brighter future.
“Together, let us rise and renew the vision of a prosperous Zamfara under the leadership of Dr. Bello Matawalle,” it said.
