Some pensioners confirmed that they received a N32,000 increase in their monthly pension for December following the new minimum wage in the state.

A statement signed by the senior special assistant on digital and strategic communications, Yusuf Ali, stated that this is the first time the minimum wage increase has been extended to pensioners in the state.

According to the statement, ” This thoughtful decision marks a significant milestone in the welfare of retired civil servants collecting meagre pensions.”

He added that people are increasingly testifying that the increase in pensioners’ monthly payments is just the tip of the iceberg in Yobe State.

Buni has demonstrated a commitment to improving the welfare of pensioners through several financial initiatives.

LEADERSHIP gathered that, in August 2024, the governor approved over N708 million for the payment of benefits to 461 retirees across the state.

Additionally, Governor Buni increased the monthly allocation for gratuity payments from N100 million to N200 million, doubling the funds available for settling retirees’ benefits.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Yobe State expressed appreciation for the increased monthly gratuity payments, acknowledging the positive impact on retirees’ welfare.
