“The building before it collapsed has been given signs in the last three days specifically on week Tuesday but the residents and neighbours ignore the signs. Part of the main structure is being used as residential also.

“The collapsed building was said to have started caving in from the underground. The structure is located between four building blocks of several flats. It was revealed that the collapsed building was being used as a night club,” he said.

Also, the permanent secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyinyolu, also confirmed the development, saying four people have been confirmed dead as rescue operation continues on the site of the collapsed building.”

Meanwhile, Lagos State government has ordered investigation of the partial collapse of an old building on 2/4 Oye Sonuga Street, Palmgrove, Mushin.

The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins gave the order when he visited the site of the four-floor building, which is said to be about 40 years old.

The Commissioner directed that the adjoining building be pulled down immediately to forestall further collapse and for safety reasons.

Efforts are on to rescue those who might have been trapped in the rubble.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency( LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory have been directed to unravel the cause of the collapse.
