Troops Foil Boko Haram, ISWAP Drone Attack In Buni Gari

Troops of Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, in continued Operation Desert Sanity IV, successfully foiled a drone attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Buni Gari on Wednesday.

According to a military source who pleaded for anonymity, an armed drone belonging to the terrorist group was detected hovering towards the headquarters of 27 Task Force Brigade at approximately 16:35 hours.

The source said Nigerian troops, in a swift action, shot down the drone before it could deploy its payload, a rocket.

The source added that the rocket was subsequently detonated safely by troops and EOD experts without casualties.

“Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Desert Sanity IV foiled Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists drone attack.

At about 25 1635A December 2024, an armed drone belonging to terrorists was sighted hovering MOB towards Headquarters 27 Task Force brigade camp Buni Gari.

“Immediately, troops engaged and shot it down before it could drop the rocket it was carrying.

“No casualties on troops while the rocket detonated by troops IOD in situ.

“Military survey drones were dispatched to scan the area, but nothing was found.

Troops maintain maximum alert. The general security situation remains fluid.

“Troops morale fighting efficiency remains satisfactory.”

This is, however, the second time terrorists would attack a military base with drones.

The first happened in Borno State, which left five soldiers injured.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, and the Director of Army Public Relations were yet to respond to enquiries at the time of this report.
