In a bold step towards sustainability and youth empowerment, the Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), has trained 300 teachers across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The two-day training focused on briquette production, modern mud stove fabrication, and waste-to-wealth creation, and was designed to equip educators with practical skills aligned with global climate action and sustainable energy practices.

Participants, drawn equally from Katsina, Daura, and Funtua zones, are expected to transfer these skills to students, particularly adolescent girls, promoting innovation and self-reliance.
During the closing session, the state youth craft village coordinator, Engr Kabir Abdullahi Kofar Soro, highlighted the program as a key initiative under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s Building Your Future agenda.

“This initiative is a testament to the Governor’s vision of transforming the Katsina Youth Craft Village into a premier skills acquisition hub for youth and women. It is not just about training teachers; it is about creating a ripple effect that will empower thousands of young people across the state,” said Engr Kofar Soro.

The program featured hands-on training in sustainable energy practices, such as using briquettes as eco-friendly alternatives to firewood and creating modern mud stoves for energy efficiency.

The participants also explored innovative waste-to-wealth techniques inspired by Governor Radda’s groundbreaking efforts in converting agricultural waste into valuable products like bags and shoes.

These efforts stem from a recent AGILE learning visit to the Katsina Youth Craft Village, where participants witnessed the transformative potential of sustainable innovations.

“The knowledge acquired here will help reduce dependency on white-collar jobs by fostering creativity and practical engagement among our youth,” Engr Kofar Soro added.

This initiative is critical in addressing climate challenges, reducing waste, and promoting economic opportunities in Katsina State. It underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable development and empowering educators to drive change within their communities.
