The defending champion of the tournament, Matthew Kuti, while appreciating the sponsors for helping the young ones by sponsoring events like the one going on,  called on them to do more in the coming year as he looks forward to winning the title again.

As for Muizz Adegoke, the second ranked national player, he said it was an avenue for the young players to grow and gain more points.

He however asked for more of such for the players while also calling on more people to emulate the ATTD by organising different tournaments for the players within the country.

According to the Vice president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Tayo Adesoji, the tournament is what the players needed at this time.

Adesoji, who is also the Technical Director of the federation said the major achievement of any individual was recreating oneself.

“As this was coming from people in the diaspora, you just have to give back to where you come from and where you know your source,” he said.

“And for them, I want to give kudos to them for thinking this way, for knowing that where they came from, other people after them require help to be like them or better than them. So for them to have been able to come back, to start a project like this, I  appreciate all of them.

“Achievement is all about recreating yourself, recreating a better you. And that’s what Nigeria needs now. You know, we don’t have the infrastructure. We don’t have enough competitions. But we have a lot of talents, both male and female. We have people.”
