Champion Breweries Plc has provided free healthcare services to residents of Aka community in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the firm also remodelled the only hospital in the community to enhance medical services.

The company said it intervened to ensure that no fewer than 1,200 host community-residents enjoy the benefits of good health through the renovated health facility.

The management of the company explained that it became expedient for the company to launch interventionist effort to reposition the only hospital in the community to address the healthcare needs of the people.

The health centre, our correspondent gathered, was upgraded with modern facilities, including solar-powered lighting for 24-hour electricity, new beds, shelves, windows, doors and tiling of floors.

Additionally, borehole water systems were reactivated, and offices were renovated to enhance the delivery of primary healthcare services.

Services including free eye checks, reading glasses, and medications, as well as general medical consultations, were also administered in partnership with medical teams from Good Health Specialist Clinic (GHSC), Kellers Eye Clinic (KEC) and Nobis Optometry Clinic (NOC).

Speaking at the commissioning, the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Brewery, Dr Inalegwu Adoga, emphasised the importance of giving back to the host community, noting that “the Aka community has been pivotal to our success over the years.

“This remodeling project and medical outreach underscore our dedication to improving the lives of those who support us.

“The initiative is part of the company’s 50th-anniversary celebrations and reflects its vision to create a lasting social impact.”

The village head of the Aka community, Eteidung Francis Morgan, commended the firm for its consistent contributions to the immediate host community.

“This health centre now stands as a beacon of hope for our community. We are deeply grateful and urge for additional support in securing the facility with perimeter fencing,” he stated.

The coordinator of the medical outreach, Dr Idoreyin Udoh, highlighted the broad scope of the healthcare services, explaining that “our team screened residents for conditions like hypertension and diabetes and other general health concerns, including critical cases being referred for further treatment.”

Head of the Aka Community Health Centre, Mrs Florence Okon Udoudo, expressed gratitude, describing the transformation of the facility as a “life-changing intervention that has given us the tools to deliver quality healthcare,” saying they look forward for further collaborations.
