The Kaduna State Government is set to establish Comprehensive Agricultural Villages in Kangimi and Gonin Gora areas, where stakeholders will complement each other’s activities, and add value to their respective businesses.
A Committee comprising the aggregate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Kaduna State Geographic Information Services (KADGIS), Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA), and Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) will produce detailed designs of the locations the proposed villages.
Speaking on the development at the Authority’s Head Office last Tuesday, the Director General of KASUPDA, Malam Isma’il Umaru Dikko, noted that the Layouts are part of the Urban Renewal Programme and the committee will determine where they will be located.
Malam Isma’il noted that the activities of poultry farmers in residential areas have become a matter of concern in several neighborhoods and so, the government has decided to localise them in the proposed Agricultural Villages.
According to the Director General, the proposed Agricultural Villages will comprise entrepreneurs who engage in gardening, orchard farming and rearing of animals.
He said that the Layout in Kangimi will be 7,000 hectares of land while 11,000 hectares has been earmarked for the Gonin Gora Layout, adding that the activities of one business will complement the other.
‘’For example, the droppings of birds from the poultry will be used as organic manure for the gardens and orchards while the gardens may produce feeds for the poultry farmer,’’ he explained.
The Director General further added that there will be Veterinary Doctors, warehouses, staff quarters and allied services provided for at the Agricultural Village.
Malam Isma’il who pointed out that the proposal is still at the planning stage, said that the final report will be submitted to Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai for his input and approval.
