He stressed that the internet, when used productively, could act as a catalyst for sustainable development.

He gave the charge during the celebration of the International Youth Day organised by the NDDC for Delta State youths at Oleh, Isoko South local government area.

Speaking on the theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways For Sustainable Development,” Ebie said the phrase “clicks to progress” encapsulates the transformative potential of digital engagement among youths in driving sustainable development.

Represented by Michael Akpobire, he said the digital landscape has fundamentally altered how young people interact with information, resources and other people adding that digital platforms serve as both a medium for knowledge dissemination and a space for collaboration.

“For instance, social media can amplify youth voices, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose around sustainability issues. This connectivity allows for the rapid exchange of ideas and best practices which can lead to collective action and advocacy for sustainable initiatives.

“From a pragmatic standpoint, the phrase “clicks to progress” highlights the need for actionable pathways that translate online engagement into tangible outcomes,” Ebie stated.

In their presentations, the keynote speakers, Prof Presley Obukoadata, a brand and strategic communication expert at Delta State University, and Dr Okpako Ejeata, the dean of Computing, University of Delta, Agbor, pointed out that technology enables youths to engage with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in innovative ways.

According to them, young people are crucial in leveraging digital pathways to address global challenges and achieve the SDGs and that their energy and creativity could shape a more sustainable future.

A director at NDDC, Engr. Onoride Omouduyi, represented by the principal manager, NDDC, Mrs Beauty Ufuoma Aikhomu, highlighted the importance of empowering the next generation to be leaders in the area that matters most which is social justice, education, climate action and sustainable development.
