Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, has called on the Afo people and other indigenes of the state to be united, peaceful and forgive one another at all times.
He made the call yesterday at the 2025 “Igbada-Odudu Kya” annual cultural festival of the Afo people in Agwada development area of Kokona local government area of the state.
Jatau said such move would foster better relationship and lead to progress and speedy development in the state.
He noted that unity and peace were necessary requirements that would foster steady growth and development in the community in particular.
“I want to appreciate this association for organising the cultural day aimed at promoting peace and unity among the Afo and other residents of Agwada.
“My appeal is for us to continue to live in peace with one another and let us also learn to forgive one another. For our society to grow, we have to be peaceful, united and have the spirit of forgiveness,” he said.
Jatua regretted how the recent skirmishes in Apawu community of the area led to the death of two people.
“Unfortunately, the misunderstanding in Apawu community claimed two lives; this is indeed sad and we pray it doesn’t repeat itself,” he lamented.
Jatau, who thanked the Afo people and other constituents for massively voting him to represent them in the assembly, called for more support to enable him and Gov. Abdullahi Sule succeed.
The speaker, who donated N1 million for the completion of an accommodation facility for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the area, promised to deliver dividends of democracy to the constituency.
The former overseer, Agwada development area of Kokona LGA, Speaking, Mr Adamu Agye, thanked the speaker for identifying with Afo people. He assured the speaker of their prayers and support for him to succeed.
The speaker had earlier visited the Osu Agwada, Alh. Abubakar Sadiq, where he received royal blessings.
