The United Nations (UN) African Union (AU) the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Group of Five for the Sahel (G5 Sahel) have formally launched an Independent High-Level Panel on security and development.

A statement issued by the National Information Officer, United Nations Information Centre in Abuja, Dr. Oluseyi Soremekun yesterday said the launched was made at a high-level event on the Sahel held on 22 September 2022 on the margins of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission,  Moussa Faki Mahamat;   the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray; the Executive Secretary of the G5 Sahel,  Eric Tiare  and the Secretary-General of the UN formally, Antonio Guteress, launched the Independent High-Level Panel led by former President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou.
