A non-governmental organisation, Women Aid Collective (WACOL) has called on government authorities to provide safe spaces for victims of violence in Ebonyi State and review existing laws on violence to forestal a recurrence and stigmatization against women and girls.

The group said if the war against violence on women and girls in the state must be achieved, there must be safe spaces for the victims.

It said that moving out of a violent environment by the victims of the acts was the first way to manage the phenomenon and called on the state government, churches and communities to establish safe spaces for the victims.

The executive director of WACOL, Professor Ngozi Ezilo, made the disclosure during a workshop for policy makers to seek ways to end violence against women and girls.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs in partnership with UN-Women under the joint EU/UN Spotlight Initiative Project.
