The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Olusola Odumosu, has challenged 137 newly trained arms personnel of the command to take a strong stand against vandals of critical government infrastructure, urging them to rid the nation’s capital of saboteurs.
Speaking at the Passing Out Parade (POP) of Batch B Basic Arms Training, Course 2, held at the NSCDC FCT Command Headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Odumosu underscored the increasing threat posed by vandals to Nigeria’s infrastructure and national security.
He said the event marked the completion of the training for 137 officers and men, bringing the total number of retrained operatives from both Batch A and Batch B to an impressive 272 under a year.
Dr Odumosu expressed his pride and satisfaction at the officers’ achievements, acknowledging the rigorous training they underwent to better equip them for the challenges ahead.
The commandant, Odumosu, further reflected on the success of the previous batch, which saw 135 officers and men graduate, and emphasised that continuous personnel retraining is vital for enhancing the Corps’ ability to tackle emerging security threats.
He called on the newly graduated officers to take immediate action, saying, “Go after the vandals of critical infrastructure. Rid our capital of these saboteurs and protect the nation’s assets.”
Dr Odumosu’s charge highlighted the importance of maintaining professionalism and discipline, especially in handling arms. “As you take up your duties, remember that you are entrusted with protecting lives and property and the security of our critical national infrastructure. Your responsibility is sacred, and it requires the utmost care and precision in every action you take,” he stated.
In his address, the commandant emphasised the significance of adhering to the rules of engagement and maintaining a vigilant stance as they embark on their roles. He said, “You are not just officers with firearms; you are the frontline defenders of the public good. Stay disciplined, remain vigilant, and think strategically as you go about your assignments”.
He also urged the officers to apply their training diligently, working innovatively and thinking critically to ensure the safety and security of the Federal Capital Territory. “Remember always to give your best, never forget the principles of your training, and ensure that every decision you make serves the nation’s greater good,” Dr. Odumosu added.
The 137 officers who successfully completed their rigorous arms training are now prepared to take on critical assignments across the FCT. They will play an essential role in safeguarding Abuja’s security and tackling the challenges posed by vandals and other security threats.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Commandant Odumosu said, “Their mission is clear: to protect the nation’s capital from those who seek to destabilise it and to secure the vital infrastructure that underpins the country’s progress.
“As the NSCDC continues to strengthen its capacity in the fight against insecurity, the newly trained officers stand ready to contribute to a safer and more secure environment in the Federal Capital Territory,” he added.
