Immigration Rescues 10 Victims Of Human Trafficking In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has rescued 10 victims of human trafficking along Nigeria/Niger Republic border en route Tripoli in Lybia.

The victims, comprising eight females and two males were intercepted on January 12, 2025 at Naira Tsamiyar Kwance in Babura local government area of the state.

Presenting the rescued victims to newsmen in Dutse, the Immigration Comptroller, Jigawa State Command, Mr Tahir Musa said the victims, between the ages of 21 – 30, hail from Oyo, Ondo, Imo and Ogun States.

Musa said the victims confessed to being lured from different locations to Kano, from where they were to be taken to Niger Republic to arrive in Tripoli, Libya, and eventually to the Mediteranian Sea to Europe.

The comptroller noted that none of the victims possessed any legal traveling documents at the time they were stopped.

However, the Comptroller has handed over the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further assistance and investigation.

He warned parents and guardians to be vigilant and protect their children and wards from human traffickers who promise them better lives abroad.

The service commended the support of the state government and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, in the fight against irregular migration.
