The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has partnered with the Open, Distance, and E-Learning Association of Nigeria (ODeLAN) to organise the 3rd ODeLAN International Conference, which is set to take place from May 14 to 16, 2025, at the NOUN Conference Centre in Abuja.

The annual conference will bring together students, academics, researchers, and industry experts from the digital space community.

At a virtual press conference held on Thursday, Professor Christine Ofulue of NOUN explained that the conference aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and innovations in open, distance, and e-learning.

Ofulue, a professor of Linguistics, highlighted the conference theme, ‘Adaptive Pedagogies for the Future of Education: Connecting Learners, Technologies, and Communities,’ emphasising the urgent need for innovative and responsive approaches to teaching and learning in response to rapid technological advancements and evolving societal demands.

Keynote speakers at the event will include Professor Peter Scott, President of the Commonwealth of Learning, Professor Olaf Zawacki-Richter, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, Professor Mpine Makoe, Executive Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and Professor Tayo Arulogun, Vice-Chancellor of Miva Open University, Abuja, among others.

Ofulue noted that the conference will feature keynote addresses, paper presentations, panel discussions, and workshops, which will focus on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in open, distance, and e-learning.

She added, “One of the workshops will be organized by the Commonwealth of Learning and is expected to attract regional participation, particularly from West Africa. This workshop will contribute to shaping the future of education, not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

“It offers a critical platform for exploring sustainable open distance learning models and a unique opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the evolution of adaptive, technology-enhanced learning practices, which are essential in preparing our students for the 21st-century workplace and future challenges.”

Ofulue further encouraged researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit papers and participate in the conference, which promises to be an enriching experience with opportunities for networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

With its diverse range of speakers and comprehensive program, the conference is poised to make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of open, distance, and e-learning both in Nigeria and beyond.
