DEPOWA Sensitises Members On Military Protocols, Ethics

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) has sensitised it’s members on military protocols and ethics and warned against abuse of soldiers. This is in order to avoid breach of protocols and military ethics at functions.

The DEPOWA President Mrs Oghogho Musa said the one day “Emotional Intelligence Training” aims to teach officers wives how to interact and relate with one another.

She said ” if we understand ourselves emotionally, we’ll know how to talk, we’ll know how to react, especially in public, and then we will not be having misunderstanding and there will not be disorderliness,”

“It’s very, very important because the armed forces is about orderliness and protocol. And if you know the order, if you know what to do, how to relate and who to address at different time, it will help you more and you know where you are meant to be at a particular time. And you will not infringe in anybody’s right. You will not get people angry. Also, you will not get yourself into trouble,”.

Mrs Musa added that the training was carefully planned to address a key factor necessary in achieving the assigned goals for the year 2025, which is emotional intelligence.

She said emotional intelligence was a vital aspect of military wives personal and professional growth that can profoundly impact their well-being, relationships, and interactions with others around them.

She said “As wives of officers, we often navigate unique challenges and responsibilities that require strength, resilience, and compassion.

Today’s training is designed to help us enhance our emotional awareness and refine the social skills necessary to build deeper and more meaningful connections with our loved ones, colleagues, and the broader society.

“Emotional intelligence is a skill set that allows us to understand and manage our emotions, as well as recognize and explain the emotions of others.

“By becoming more self-aware, learning to manage our emotions effectively, and fostering positive relationships, we not only contribute to the growth of those around us, but also set the stage for pertinent improvements and harmony in our homes and societies by having positive mindsets towards situations in our lives,” she said.

In her lecture titled “Protocols for military spouses and DEPOWA members”, Mrs Victoria Irabor warned military wives against use of husbands’ staff cars.

Mrs Irabor the immediate past DEPOWA President reminded members that they are not allowed to give bags to their orderlies.

She also warned against abuse of soldiers or using them to do “demeaning jobs”.

Mrs Irabor among other things said, “As a military wife, you’re not allowed to use staff cars. Military wives are not allowed to abuse soldiers or use them to do demeaning jobs. They are there to protect you and not to carry your handbags. Avoid taking soldiers in uniforms to markets.”
