Ethnic Clah Claims Traditional Ruler, 14 Others In Kebbi, Police Confirm

A clash between Fulani and Kambari inhabitant in Lafagu Village under Bagudo local government area of Kebbi State has claimed the life of the village head of the Village, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli and 14 Others.

Leadership Reporter gathered from the eldest son of the Late village head, Malam Idris Saidu that the attackers who are Kambari by tribe have attacked Lafagu and Buya communities in the night on Sunday, killed fifteen persons including the his father, the village head of Lafagu.

Idris, who could not ascertained the number of the attackers confirmed that they came in large and with sophisticated weapons.

Though there was no official statement from the police regarding the clash but, in an interview with BBC Hausa with Commissioner of Police in Kebbi state, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia confirmed that the incident occurred in the night on Sunday between the two Ethnic groups.

CP Hadejia further revealed that the incident started when two people from Lagos, to sale their only got in the market, a group of Fulani attacked them alleged that they are the people who stole and killed their people.

He added that, thereafter another group from Kambari group in a retaliation were allegedly attacked Fulani people in the night at Lahagu village, killed the Village Head and another fourteen people.

According to Hadejia, the attackers after the distarderly act, burnt down the house of the Late village head and flee.

“Presently we have arrested six Suspects in connection with the killings, 3 are at Kaoje CID office and another 3 at Birnin Kebbi CID” CP Hadejia said.

“But normalcy has since returned to the village following the dispatched of the strong security personnel to ensure peace reign in Lafagu and Bagudo local government axis. ” he added.

Governor Nasir Idris who is out of the state travelled abroad through his media aide has condemned the unfortunate incident.

Idris however sympathised and also condoled with the family of the late village head of Lafagu and other fourteen people who lost their lives in both Lafagu and Buya communities

He noted that security forces have already taken over the areas in order to ensure absolute peace and stop reoccurring reprisal attacks.
