Wives of deceased soldiers in Abia State have sought improved welfare for themselves and their children through employment opportunities and education.

Three widows of late soldiers, Mrs Esther Enyeazu, Anna Ekwuruke and Scholastica Onyeji, made the appeal on the sidelines of the grand finale of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

They appealed to governments at all levels, good-spirited individuals and business organisations in the country to assist in providing succour for them in view of cause their husbands died for.

They lamented that since the death of their husbands in active service, life had not been the same again for them and their children, adding that some of them had resorted to doing menial jobs to survive.

The widows argued that such succour would encourage their husbands’ serving colleagues to give their best in service in the hope that in the event of any eventually, their families would be adequately taken care of.

They cited the good gestures and promises of assistance made to them by the governor, Alex Otti recently, expressing optimism that his administration would give them the needed attention.

Also speaking, retired Navy Warrant Officer Jeremiah Obiefule and Corporal Ansamlem Chime acknowledged the federal government’s efforts in the payment of their entitlements

The veterans underscored the need for adequate use of trained military personnel to address security challenges in the country and prayed for the repose of the souls of their fallen colleagues.
