Nasarawa State governor Abdullahi Sule has hinted about creating a cluster farming method leveraging on crops that are best suited for particular areas of the state.
He said the proposed creation of “core agriculture zones” was aimed at boosting food production and wealth creation across the state.
The governor disclosed this while on a train ride from China’s densely populated Henan province to the mineral rich Nanchang, in Jiangxi province with a delegation of Chinese Business Group led by its leader, Mr. Chen Qiang.
He said he is determined to support the cultivation of every piece of arable land in the state in pursuit of his administration’s vision for agriculture and wealth creation.
Governor Sule who is on a weeklong visit to China lamented that the state has vast land that is rich and suitable for agriculture but is grossly underutilized.
The governor said he looked forward to a partnership that would see every available land cultivated as is visible in the agriculture rich area spanning Henan province.
According to him, the recent distribution of tractors and seedlings to all the local government areas in the state is a practical demonstration of his administration’s commitment to the cause of agriculture.
Responding, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Chen Qiang said his team is ready to key into the vision of Governor Sule in facilitating large scale mechanised farming in Nasarawa State.
Mr. Qiang admitted that the land in Nasarawa is richer than some in China hence their desire to cultivate in the state while seeking the collaboration of the state.
Other officials of the Chinese business group are Chen Xiaoping, and Zheng You, Chairman Tongyi Group.
