The lawmakers’ affirmation comes against the backdrop of the immediate past Speaker, Hon Mudashiru Obasa, renouncing the impeachment process.

According to a press statement signed by Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode on behalf of the other members of the House, they said, “We stand by the decision taken on January 13, 2025, where Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was impeached, and we shall defend our positions to the latter.

“As elected representatives of Lagos, we owe them good governance and harmonious relationships with other arms of government.

“The position of the House remains the same, and nothing has changed. The position being canvassed by former Speaker, Rt Hon Obasa, is uncalled for and un-parliamentary”.

The lawmakers noted that the majority of members elected Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, as Speaker for the 10th Assembly, affirms that the lawmakers in the said plenary also decided to remove him and stand by the new Speaker.

According to the statement, members were elected from various state constituencies. They added that they all have the inalienable rights under the necessary statutory orders to remove their Principal officers, including the speaker.

The lawmakers appealed to the former Speaker to follow the path of peace and harmony, adding that the current intransigent posture would heat the polity and not augur well.
