Gov Nwifuru, Ogah Warn Students Against Cultism, Exam Malpractice, Other Vices

Ebonyi State governor Francis Nwifuru and the House of Representatives Committee chairman on Reformatory Institutions, Hon Chinedu Ogah, have cautioned students against involvement in cult-related activities, certificate forgery, examination malpractices, and other vices capable of affecting their lives and education.

They gave the warning during the Matriculation/Capping Ceremony of students of Blessed Martins College of Nursing Sciences, (BMCONSI), Ohatekwe Amagu, Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking at the ceremony, the state governor represented by the commissioner for Education, Prof Paul Nwobasi maintained that cultism and other social vices constitute more harm than good to students and warned against such indulgence.

He noted that the state government is investing huge resources and manpower on education adding that the state governor is a strong believer in human empowerment.

On his part, Hon Ogah, who is also the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, noted that the institution frowns at any act that will undermine its name and integrity and urged the students to focus on their studies and shun any act that would hinder them from achieving academic excellence.

Comrade Ogah, who is the founder of the tertiary institution, said that his foundation will continue to support students who excel in their different fields of academic endeavours and doled out huge sums of money to three students of the institution for their excellent performance in the institution.

In her address, the proprietor of the institution, Mrs. Mary Ogah, commended the students for choosing nursing as a career, adding that it is a divine call to serve humanity, which requires dedication, commitment, passion and empathy.

She said that the institution has zero tolerance for any form of mischievous character or conduct, which includes cultism, examination malpractice, fighting, stealing, lesbianism, homosexuality, and falsification of documents, amongst others.

She urged the new entrants to refrain from any act that could terminate their stay in school and to always remember the huge resources their parents are investing in them to have a sound education and become useful to themselves and society upon graduation.

She noted that the school has established facilities for the training of Nurses and Midwives, adding that the National Board for Technical Education NBTE recently visited the college for accreditation and approval to upgrade it to National Diploma and Higher National Diploma awarding institution.

She maintained that some of the facilities provided in the school include a spacious library with over 200 sitting capabilities equipped with current nursing textbooks and journals, ICT with internet connectivity, and a nursing demonstration room with modern instructional tools and models for practical demonstration, amongst others.
