The chairman of Bekwarra local government area in Cross River State, Hon. Theresa Ushie, has taken a significant step toward environmental transformation by officially launching a monthly sanitation exercise aimed at fostering cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability in the council.

The initiative aligns with Cross River State governor Sen. Bassey Otu’s vision of creating a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, it was revealed that the vibrant flag-off ceremony drew a wide array of stakeholders, including community leaders, business owners, youth representatives, and members of various organizations, all committed to building a cleaner Bekwarra.

In her address during the event, Hon. Ushie highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in achieving sustainable environmental goals.

“This initiative is not just about sanitation; it’s about safeguarding our future,” she remarked. “Cleanliness is key to preventing the spread of diseases, protecting our environment, and improving the quality of life for our people. I urge every resident to actively participate in this exercise and take ownership of our shared responsibility to maintain a clean community.”

The event also featured the active involvement of Mr. Edward Omang Idiege, the Supervisor for Environment, and his team, who spearheaded the distribution of waste bins across strategic locations in the local government area. This effort encourages proper waste disposal and management, fostering a culture of environmental consciousness among residents.

Hon. Ushie reaffirmed her dedication to the People’s First agenda championed by Governor Otu, emphasizing that the sanitation initiative is a crucial component of her administration’s broader mission to create a sustainable and clean Cross River State.

“This is only the beginning of a new chapter for Bekwarra,” she stated. “Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous community for all. Let this serve as a call to action for everyone to do their part.”
